The Engineer, the only magazine serving the UK’s engineering technology community, has reported on Vibrant Corp. / Vibrant NDT Ltd.’s PCRT technology and their cooperation with The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

Tapping in to NDT

A new non-destructive testing technique based on resonant frequency response promises to revolutionise the way we check the integrity of critical components – and predict their behaviour in service.

Anyone who’s worked in quality control in a high-pressure production department will confirm that it’s hard to please all the interested parties, all the time. Scrapping components or semi-finished materials can impose crippling costs in terms of materials and more significantly wasted ’value?added’ work; thorough testing can be very time consuming and impose impractical lead times; faulty components in service can cost money – and lives.

A new non-destructive testing technique emerging from a partnership which has developed under the wing of AMRC, addresses these problems. Vibrant Corporation’s Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT) provides environmentally friendly, cost-effective and fast reporting on the structural integrity of components. It eliminates the disadvantages of statistical sampling, picks up hidden flaws more effectively than conventional NDT, delivers feedback on process capability, and provides peace of mind by predicting the behaviour of parts in service.

About Vibrant

Vibrant is a spin off of Mechtronic Solutions, Inc. that has commercialized Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT) for use in the aerospace and power generation industries. The PCRT technology, licensed from Magnaflux Quasar, is a revolutionary non-destructive testing technology that can determine if a component is structurally sound and fit for service. Vibrant has developed PCRT applications focused on the safety critical components found in the aerospace industry. These applications bring the power of PCRT to bear on new product quality control and i-service product degradation tracking. Vibrant is now performing testing services for several major aerospace manufacturers and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) firms.

About Vibrant NDT Ltd

Vibrant NDT Ltd is the UK joint venture between British NDT Company Johnson and Allen and Vibrant Corporation in the United States. The company is commercializing Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT) throughout the United Kingdom. The PCRT technology, licensed from Magnaflux Quasar, is a revolutionary non-destructive testing technology that can determine if a component is structurally sound and fit for service. Vibrant NDT Ltd has developed PCRT applications in the aerospace, automotive, tooling, and power generation industries. These applications bring the power of PCRT to bear on new product quality control and in-service product degradation tracking. www.vibrantndt.co.uk
